Aramith has introduced a revolutionary design for a new pool set in collaboration with Matchroom Multisport, focusing on developing colors tailored specifically for TV broadcasts. This collaboration marks a significant breakthrough in pool set aesthetics. The partnership between Matchroom and SALUC, which dates back to the 1990s, has been extended for three more years. Throughout this enduring collaboration, Aramith Pro-Cup balls have established themselves as the industry standard. The renewed partnership has led to the creation of the 'Tournament Black' set, a result of collaborative efforts that will debut at this year's partypoker Mosconi Cup and feature in all upcoming Matchroom Pool events, including the 2020 US Open 9-Ball Championship.
The story behind Aramith Tournament BLACK colours
Traditionally the object balls have the following colour code :
1 and 9 ball : yellow
2 and 10 ball : dark blue
3 and 11 ball : red
4 and 12 ball : dark purple
5 and 13 ball : orange
6 and 14 ball : dark green
7 and 15 ball : maroon
8 ball : black
Though the initial colour scheme aimed at providing optimal ball contrast faced challenges in TV and video transmission, particularly with dark blue, dark purple, and maroon being challenging to distinguish, adjustments were made for improved visibility. The Super Aramith Pro TV set was introduced, replacing dark purple and maroon with pink and light brown, significantly enhancing contrast. This set, along with the subsequent Aramith Tournament TV sets, became widely successful in major tournaments globally, while the regular Super Aramith Pro and Aramith Tournament sets retained the traditional colours.
In response to Matchroom Sport's 2018 request to enhance the contrast further, particularly between orange and red/pink and dark green and dark blue, a new Aramith Tournament BLACK set was developed. Anticipating the need for better visibility on small screens, light purple replaced orange, and a lighter green replaced the darker shade in this set. The pink 4-ball, established as the reference in official tournaments with the Aramith Tournament TV set, couldn't adopt the light purple to maintain tradition.
Notably, the black design on the striped balls, initially created for nine-ball games to distinguish the 9-ball from the 1-ball, is a ground-breaking addition, now patented, and is featured on all striped balls for an innovative and distinctive appearance.
